What to see and do in Canet de Mar

Canet de Mar
Village
Canet de Mar is a modernist town in the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, with the castle of Santa Florentina and links to the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Its population has grown due to property pressure from Barcelona, doubling in little more than a decade to the current 15,198 inhabitants (INE 2025). A coastal town, its economy combines tourism, flower-growing, strawberry cultivation and the textile industry, and it hosts Spain's only university school of technical engineering in knitted fabrics. The streams are the town's emblem, prone to sudden flooding; the Gavarra stream, with the largest catchment area, flows out beside the Albó stream to form Canet beach, on the Maresme coast, with the Montnegre massif in the background.

Historical milestone
The architect, whose mother's family was from Canet, had in the town, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his summer house and his workshop for studies on heraldry and medieval architecture. There he designed the Casa Roura and the enlargement of the castle of Santa Florentina.
