What to see and do in Castell de l'Areny

Castell de l'Areny
Village
Castell de l'Areny is a small municipality in the south of the Berguedà, in the province of Barcelona, with 68 inhabitants (INE 2025) who live from dry-land farming. It takes its name from the old termenat castle that gave its name to the district: it comes from the Germanic personal name Athalasind, documented as Castellum Athalasindi, castle of Athalasind, which in Catalan evolved into Alareny and from there into Castell de l'Areny. Its district also contains the remains of the former village of Sant Romà de la Clusa. It preserves two Romanesque churches, that of San Vicente and that of San Román de la Clusa, the latter linked to the vanished settlement.
