What to see and do in Viladecans

Viladecans
Village
Viladecans is a coastal city in the Llobregat delta, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, with 67,587 inhabitants (INE 2025) and strong growth in recent decades owing to its proximity to the capital. It retains agricultural areas and protected natural spaces, including the Remolar area, in the delta's coastal marshes. Its origin may go back to a 1st-century Roman agricultural villa, located where the hermitage of Sales stands today, whose Romanesque chapel is already documented in 1143; the current place name, Villa de Canes, appears in 1148. For three centuries it belonged to the Burgues and Burgues-Santcliment family, and in the 17th century the lord of Viladecans kept a fortified house equipped with artillery at El Remolar.

Food and drink
The silts of the delta and the irrigation of the channels give artichoke, lettuce, tomato, onion and potato that have supplied the markets of Barcelona for more than a century. An agrarian park today protects these fields from urban pressure.
