What to see and do in Sant Salvador de Guardiola

Sant Salvador de Guardiola
Village
Sant Salvador de Guardiola is a municipality in the south of the Bages, in Catalonia, between Manresa and the border with the Anoia, formed by the main settlement and the historic village of Salelles alongside developments such as El Calvet; it has 3.612 inhabitants. Its origins are linked to Guardiola castle, documented since the year 924 and built, according to tradition, by the noble Sal·la, founder of the monastery of Sant Benet de Bages; from the 16th century the Miralda family turned it into the Cal Miralda farmhouse, which served as a Republican barracks during the Civil War. The parish church of Sant Salvador, from the 17th century, replaced a Romanesque church; it preserves a Catalan arcaded gallery and elements of a Baroque altarpiece destroyed during the conflict.
