What to see and do in Sant Martí Sesgueioles

Sant Martí Sesgueioles
Village
Sant Martí Sesgueioles is a small municipality in the north of l'Anoia, in the historic Alta Segarra, with 353 inhabitants and only 3.9 km², the second-smallest area in the comarca. The place name comes from the contraction of “ses esglesioles”, and it was Castilianized as San Martín Sasgayolas until the Catalan form was restored in 1983. It takes its name from the medieval tower of the bell tower of the church of El Puig, which originally, in 1550, was part of the original church; when this was demolished in the 18th century and rebuilt in the centre of the village, the bell tower was left isolated halfway up the slope of El Puig. It also preserves the 17th-century Roser chapel and the 18th-century parish church of Saint Michael.
