What to see and do in Cabrera d'Anoia

Cabrera d'Anoia
Village
Cabrera d'Anoia is a municipality in the east of l'Anoia, in Barcelona, with 1,772 inhabitants (INE 2025) over 17.04 square kilometres. It was called simply Cabrera until 1916, then Cabrera d'Igualada, and recovered its current name in 2007, in reference to the comarca and to the basin of the river Anoia. The municipality is dominated by the old castle of Cabrera, whose first documented lord, in 1051, was the bishop and viscount Guislabert de Barcelona; it later passed through several noble families, among them the Tous, the Cardona and, from 1586, the Foixà. At its foot stands the church of Sant Salvador. Almost three quarters of its territory are protected within the Valls de l'Anoia. It also groups small centres such as Canaletes, the seat of the municipality.
Castle of Cabrera
Monument
11th-century castle that gives its name to the municipality of Cabrera d'Anoia, built to guard the royal road to Aragon through the Capellades gorge. Its first lord was the bishop of Barcelona Guislabert I; it later passed to Ramon Berenguer I and his wife Almodis, to the Cardona family in 1396, and, from the 17th century, to the Móra family. Of the original fortress, built with ashlar blocks laid in horizontal courses, only a few stretches of wall with arrow slits survive; on its ruins the Casal dels Móra was built in the 17th century, reusing old walls and preserving the Cardona coat of arms at the entrance. It is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
Waterfalls of Cabrera d'Anoia
Nature
Group of small waterfalls on the Bleda stream, in the municipality of Cabrera d'Anoia, between the hamlets of Canaletes and Bedorc. Two stand out: the Salt de la Mala Dona, with a direct drop of about 15 metres into a pool, and the Salt del Cargol, with a total drop of about 35 metres spread over an initial 8-metre slide, a pool, two intermediate falls and a final 10-metre drop that ends in a small natural amphitheatre. The surroundings, shady and damp, with dense vegetation along about 2 kilometres, are suitable for beginner canyoning, although it is advisable to visit with specialists.
