What to see and do in Torrelavit

Torrelavit
Village
Torrelavit, also called Torrelavid, is a wine-growing municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca, in the province of Barcelona, located north of the comarcal capital, Vilafranca del Penedès, on the border with the l'Anoia comarca. It has 1,572 inhabitants (2025) and its municipal area, at an altitude of 202 metres, brings together ten settlements. It was formed in 1920 from the union of the former municipalities of Terrassola and Lavit, with the town council seated in the latter. Its coat of arms recalls both origins: the castle of Terrassola, from the 11th century, and the bunch of grapes of Lavit, with the four bars of Catalonia at the base because the castle of Lavit, from the 10th century, belonged to the Crown.
The union of Terrassola and Lavit
Historical milestone
The settlements of Terrassola and Lavit, separated by the river, were united in a single municipality whose first joint census dates from 1920. The compound name ended up contracting into the form Torrelavit, which is the one the council adopted.
