La Torre de Claramunt
Village
La Torre de Claramunt is a municipality in the comarca of l'Anoia, in the province of Barcelona, located in the valley of the Anoia river between Capellades and la Pobla de Claramunt. It has 4,158 inhabitants and lives off rain-fed agriculture, livestock farming and the paper industry. Its name comes from the watchtower that, around 1070, the lords of the castle of Claramunt built to control the valley and the road towards the Òdena basin; the village grew up around it. The Claramunt lineage, whose coat of arms — a mountain with a fleur-de-lis — still presides over the municipality, kept the castle under the rule of the Cardona family until recovering full ownership in 1556, the year of the great expansion that gave it its present appearance.
