What to see and do in Sant Quintí de Mediona

Sant Quintí de Mediona
Village
The village stands at 325 metres altitude. Of the medieval castle documented since the 14th century, belonging to the barony of Mediona, barely any remains survive, incorporated into the cemetery wall: what can be seen today on the hill actually corresponds to an 1836 fortification from the First Carlist War, built reusing the walls of a 1703 hermitage of Sant Antoni de Pàdua.
Castle of Sant Quintí
Monument
A castle situated on a hill next to the cemetery of Sant Quintí de Mediona, documented in the 14th century although probably rebuilt after the town was burned in 1714, during the War of the Spanish Succession; it formed part of the barony of Mediona, held by the viscounts of Cardona. A square plan with a tower and visible buttresses. An Asset of National Cultural Interest since 1988 (BCIN 1536-MH).
Bitlles River (Mediona-Riudebitlles)
Nature
The riu de Bitlles, also known as the riera de Mediona in its middle stretch, crosses the centre of the Alt Penedès before joining the river Anoia. Its name is documented as early as the 10th century, in texts that cite it as rivus de Birlas or Berilas, of uncertain origin; a monastery was established beside its course, which gave its name to the town of Sant Pere de Riudebitlles.
