Palacios del Pan
Village
Palacios del Pan is a Zamora village of 249 inhabitants, sixteen kilometres from the provincial capital, in Tierra del Pan, on the bank of the Esla reservoir opposite Manzanal del Barco, with which it is linked by the Martín Gil viaduct, also called the Cabriles viaduct. In times of persistent drought, the old viaduct that used to link the comarcas of Alba and Pan emerges above the waters of the reservoir. The oldest remains of settlement are found in the depopulated hamlet of Mazares, where the Casetón de los Moros preserves traces of buildings and Roman pottery, and a Roman stele is also preserved beside the pelota court. In the area known as El Madrigal it has around twenty chalets, a bathing area and a sailing club, where sailing and canoeing competitions are held.
