What to see and do in Pedrosa del Rey

Pedrosa del Rey
Village
Pedrosa del Rey is a municipality of 147 inhabitants in the province of Valladolid, in the comarca of Tierra del Vino, with a municipal area of 52 km² crossed by the Duero motorway and by the river Hornija, which flows between Villalar de los Comuneros and San Román de Hornija; to the west rises the páramo of the Alto del Mayo, which exceeds 800 metres. It includes the localities of Villaester de Arriba and Villaester de Abajo, known together as Los Villaesteres. On 20 August 1809, during the War of Independence, the guerrilla fighter Juan Martín Díez, El Empecinado, put a French column to flight here on its way to Morales de Toro; in the fighting he was wounded in the arm, and, furious, killed his attacker by striking his face with a stone.
