Boecillo
Village
Boecillo is a municipality of about 4,400 inhabitants in the Tierra de Pinares district, in the province of Valladolid, beside the Duero, near its confluence with the Cega, 14 kilometres from the capital. Its name may come from the box-tree plant (boj) or from a small ox that used to drink at the village fountain; it has been documented since 1156, when Alfonso VII granted the Monte de Boecillo-Puente Duero to Valladolid. Its municipal area includes the Raso de Portillo, home to Spain's oldest fighting-bull herd. Its Technology Park, one of the largest in northern Spain, hosts companies such as Deimos Imaging, run by astronaut Pedro Duque. The neoclassical palace of the Counts of Gamazo, residence of the politician Germán Gamazo, has housed the events area of the Casino de Castilla y León since 1986.
