Fuente-Olmedo
Village
Fuente-Olmedo is a municipality of 42 inhabitants in Valladolid, one of the seven villages that made up the old alfoz (surrounding territory) of Olmedo, on a plain dominated by small hills. It entered the archaeological literature when farm work, a kilometre to the south-east, uncovered the Bell Beaker burial of a high-ranking young man, from a society in which lineage was already passed down by inheritance; his complete grave goods are preserved and displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Valladolid. The parish church, dedicated to San Juan Evangelista, lost its liturgical objects and works of art in a robbery in 1836. In 1920 the school and town-hall building was erected beside the plaza Mayor, paid for by the indiano (a Spaniard who returned wealthy from the Americas) Eladio Sobrino Segovia, whose daughter Luz Sobrino would become a renowned architect.
