Olmedo
Village
Olmedo is a town in the Tierra de Pinares district, in the south of the province of Valladolid, between the rivers Eresma and Adaja, at 768 metres above sea level. Known as the town of the Seven Sevens for its seven churches, convents, squares, fountains and city gates, it is the capital of Valladolid's Mudéjar architecture and the birthplace of the Knight of Lope de Vega; it is home to a theme park with scale replicas of Mudéjar monuments. It appears in documents in 1085, among the villages Alfonso VI took from the Moors, and was resettled in 1093 along with towns such as Íscar, Coca and Cuéllar. In 1353 Peter I the Cruel resided there, when he broke with his wife to join María de Padilla. Allied with John II against Aragon, it was besieged and defeated at the Battle of Olmedo. It has about 3,600 inhabitants.
