Viana de Cega
Village
Viana de Cega is a municipality in the province of Valladolid, situated 15 kilometres from the capital, in the so-called Alfoz vallisoletano, with around 2,280 inhabitants divided between the main settlement and the Pago de Viñagrande. Bathed by the rivers Cega and Adaja, it is one of the gateways to the comarca of Tierra de Pinares, with abundant pine vegetation, although today it functions mainly as a dormitory town of the capital, with a predominance of single-family homes. Its old church, located beside the river, was demolished in the 1960s and replaced by another more central one; during the move its large gilded altarpiece was lost, now displayed in the Alcázar of Segovia. It still preserves some Gothic sculptures inside.
