What to see and do in Cervillego de la Cruz

Cervillego de la Cruz
Village
Cervillego de la Cruz is a municipality in the district of Tierra de Medina, in the province of Valladolid, with 87 inhabitants, compared with the 208 it had in the mid-19th century. At the entrance to the village stands a small church built at the end of the Middle Ages in memory of San Juan Bautista, its patron saint, with a Romanesque-Mudéjar façade and a Baroque altarpiece by Pedro Correa. Between 1755 and 1836 an organ-building workshop of the Gil family operated here, producing a series of 37 very similar instruments distributed across Ávila and Valladolid. In 1999 a Centro de Cultura was built in tribute to the writer Julio Senador, born here. Cervillego celebrates the Cruz de Mayo on the 3rd and, above all, on 29 August, the Degollación de San Juan Bautista, with the tradition of the peñas.
