What to see and do in Villabaruz de Campos

Villabaruz de Campos
Village
Villabaruz de Campos, in the Tierra de Campos of Valladolid, today has 31 inhabitants, far from the 208 it counted in the mid-19th century. It keeps one of the most striking traditions in the comarca: at the festival of San Pelayo, held from 24 to 29 June with the patron saint as the centrepiece on the 26th, the standard-bearer leading the procession carries a pendón several metres tall and, in front of the church of Nuestra Señora de la Calle, lowers it slowly until it grazes the ground, sways it from side to side folding the cloth as a bow, and raises it upright again without ever letting it rest on the ground.
