What to see and do in Adalia

Adalia
Village
Adalia is a municipality in the province of Valladolid, in Castile and León, located in a deep, damp valley of the Montes Torozos, with about fifty inhabitants. During the Middle Ages and the early modern period it was part of the shared lordship of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, integrated into the Encomienda de Wamba since 1140, and of the diocese of Palencia, which resulted in two parishes and two jurisdictions at once: the church of San Salvador, served by a prior of the Order, and that of Santa Eulalia, under the bishop of Palencia. This dual allegiance lasted until the Mendizábal disentailment of 1836. After the church of Santa Eulalia later disappeared, today only that of the Salvador survives as an active parish, keeping a Romanesque doorway with diamond-point archivolts.
The creation of the Commandery of Wamba
Historical milestone
In 1140, after a donation by the infanta Sancha Raimúndez, the Commandery of Wamba was created, to which Adalia was tied. Ecclesiastical ownership over these lands lasted until the disentailment of Mendizábal, in 1836.
