Barruelo del Valle
Village
Barruelo del Valle is a town in the Montes Torozos, in Valladolid, at the foot of the mountains that form the valley of Torrelobatón. It has about fifty residents. In the mid-19th century it was engaged in cereal farming, and its most notable activity was carrying grain to the Canal de Castilla and making esparto grass mats, woven by women and children. Its church of San Pelayo, from the 16th to the 18th centuries, mixes Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassical styles, with a barrel-vaulted nave; it keeps an image of Santa Ana stolen in 1992 and recovered in 1997. Beside it, the Baroque hermitage of la Virgen de Villaudor, from the 18th century. In 2005 its plaza Mayor and town hall were inaugurated.
