What to see and do in San Pelayo

San Pelayo
Village
San Pelayo is a tiny municipality of about forty inhabitants and a little over ten square kilometres, perched at 776 metres on the páramo of the Torozos, in the Montes Torozos district (Valladolid). In the mid-19th century the municipality, then within the territory of Torrelobatón, had 70 houses and 184 inhabitants. Its heritage is limited to the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the hermitage of the Santísimo Cristo del Suspiro and the fountain of El Caño, with three spouts. It traditionally lived from the cultivation of cereals and legumes, from mule and cattle raising, and had a bakery and a flour mill.
The limestone plateau of the Torozos
Nature
Residual relief of limestone tables aligned from northeast to southwest that stay between 800 and 850 metres above the neighbouring plains. It covers some 2,000 km2 between the northwest of Valladolid and the southwest of Palencia, and San Pelayo sits right in the heart of the moorland.
