Langayo
Village
Langayo is a village of 246 inhabitants set on a hill, at the meeting point of the valleys watered by the streams of San Mamés and Oreja, in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel. A hamlet of the alfoz of Peñafiel organised in the 12th century, it became a town in 1447 when it passed into the hands of Fernando de Rivadeneyra by the will of King John II; in 1459 the crown bought it and gave it to Pedro Girón, master of Calatrava, whose family exercised the manorial rights over the village for generations. On its land a Celtiberian hillfort was detected, and the deserted settlements of Oreja and the Granja de San Mamés are preserved. Its church of San Pedro, from the 13th century, has a 15th-century basket-arch porch and holds the main altarpiece sold to it in 1744 by the church of Santa María de Peñafiel.
Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Langayo
Monument
Standing atop the hill, overlooking the village, this late Romanesque church was begun in the 13th century and underwent major reforms in the 15th, among them the porch with a basket-arch on its south front. Its corbels show human figures, a lion, a crocodile and a pig. Inside, with three naves, the main chapel displays a 15th-century star-ribbed vault. The main altarpiece, from the first half of the 17th century, comes from the church of Santa María in Peñafiel, which sold it in 1744, and is topped with an Assumption from the school of Gregorio Fernández. In the Epistle nave is preserved the panel of San Pedro attributed to the Master of Osma, together with a Baroque altarpiece of 1748 with a sculpture of san Bernardo.

Nature
The village sits at 837 metres on the hill where two small valleys watered by the streams of San Mamés and Oreja meet. In the nineteenth century the landscape was of oak and holm oak wood with an abundance of partridge, rabbit and hare.
