What to see and do in Herrera de Soria

Herrera de Soria
Village
Herrera de Soria is one of the most depopulated municipalities in Spain, with barely twelve residents, situated entirely within the Cañón del Río Lobos natural park, in the province of Soria. It shares administration with the villages of Nafría de Ucero and Ucero in the joint holding known as the Comunidad de Herrera de Soria, also called the Comunero de San Bartolomé. More than half of its municipal area is protected under the Natura 2000 Network, between the canyon itself and the sabina-juniper groves of the sierra de Cabrejas, with white sabina junipers, Corsican pine forests and, in the La Dehesa oak wood, Portuguese and Pyrenean oaks together with willows and blackthorns. In 1787 it belonged to the district of Ucero, was a lordship of the bishop of Osma and had 249 inhabitants.
