Valdegeña
Village
Valdegeña is a municipality and town in the province of Soria, with 36 inhabitants according to the 2025 register, in the comarca of Soria and within the diocese of Osma. Constituted as a municipality after the fall of the Ancien Régime, in the 1842 census it had 43 households and 170 residents, and by the mid-19th century it had come to have about fifty houses. The village is devoted to growing cereals and sunflowers, as well as livestock farming and pig farms, and it preserves the church of San Lorenzo. It was the birthplace of the writer Avelino Hernández, who portrayed it in his youthful narratives, and in 2012 it became known for a documentary in which two residents, the Ciriano brothers, foresaw the economic crisis.
