What to see and do in Pozalmuro

Pozalmuro
Village
Pozalmuro is a village of 49 residents in the province of Soria, in the comarca of Campo de Gómara, next to the puerto del Madero, through which the N-122 road runs at 1,114 metres of altitude; the village itself stands at 1,053 metres, on the banks of the río Rituerto. It belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, within the former Sexmo de Tera, and in the 1842 census it had 151 households and 610 residents. On its land stands the Huerta de Bécquer, a property that once belonged to Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. It preserves the bridge and causeway of Masegoso, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in the monument category in 2001, as well as the tower of the depopulated hamlet of the same name, listed as a castle.

Monument
Over the river Rituerto an old bridge and the course of a Roman road are preserved, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2001; beside them rises the tower of Masegoso, protected since 1949.

Nature
The municipal district contributes 1,279 hectares to the Natura 2000 site known as the Portuguese oak and holm oak woods of the Sierra del Madero, the mountain barrier that closes the municipality on the east against the plain of the Rituerto.
