What to see and do in Veganzones

Veganzones
Village
Veganzones is a town in the province of Segovia, settled by the Bishop of Segovia between the 12th and 13th centuries on lands that Queen Urraca had granted him in 1123, and which was then called Vega de Infanzones. It remained under episcopal lordship until the reign of Philip II, when it was separated; the townspeople themselves bought their jurisdiction in 1579 for almost three million maravedís, not formalised in writing until 1615, already under Philip III. Its church of Santa Águeda, from 1609, is the work of Pedro de Brizuela, master builder of Segovia Cathedral. Gacería was also spoken there, the jargon of the livestock traders from around Cantalejo. With around 211 inhabitants, it decorates the procession's route with foliage arches and altars during the Octave of the Lord.

Monument
A Baroque church of 1609 designed by Pedro de Brizuela, with a Latin cross plan and a barrel vault; its main altarpiece, Churrigueresque and with Solomonic columns, narrates the life and martyrdom of Santa Águeda.
Veganzones, a town in its own right
Historical milestone
Founded by the bishop of Segovia between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries under the name of Vega de Infanzones, the locality remained under episcopal dominion until in 1615 Felipe III granted it the title of villa de por sí y sobre sí.
The gacería of traders and threshing-sledge makers
Curiosity
In these villages the memory is preserved of the gacería, the jargon used by the cattle dealers and the threshing-sledge makers of the Cantalejo area to understand one another without being understood by their customers.
