Navares de Enmedio
Village
Navares de Enmedio is a village of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Sepúlveda, in the province of Segovia, one of three neighboring Navares villages along with Navares de Ayuso and Navares de las Cuevas; it has about 90 inhabitants, compared with the 499 recorded in the mid-19th century. The Navares stream, called Henchidero by locals because its waters filter through cracks in the limestone, flows down from the sierra de Pradales and forms a cool, shaded meadow beside the village, among limestone slabs, holm oak groves and pine woods. Its church of Santiago Apóstol was built in the 16th century using materials from an earlier one, with three naves and a baroque main altarpiece. On 12 October it celebrates the Virgen del Pilar, lowering her image from the throne along rails to the procession's float.
