What to see and do in Fresno de la Fuente

Fresno de la Fuente
Village
Fresno de la Fuente is a Segovian village of about 75 inhabitants, part of the ochavo de Bercimuel of the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, on the plain between the sierra de Guadarrama and La Serrazuela. Recorded in 1247 as Frexniello, after the ash trees (fresnos) of the area, in the 16th century «de la Fuente» was added because of its numerous springs, among them an old Roman fountain; in 1692 Charles II created the County of Fresno de la Fuente in his favor. It preserves the Romanesque church of San Miguel Arcángel, atop a hill, with a splayed portal of plain archivolts over simple capitals, and a Romanesque fountain. On 20 June it celebrates the fiesta del bollo, in which a decorated cart goes from house to house asking for sweets that are shared in the square.
