Encinas
Village
Encinas is a hamlet of 39 inhabitants in the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, province of Segovia, within the Ochavo de Bercimuel. The territory was resettled at the time of the Reconquista by that same community of town and land. In the mid-19th century Madoz counted 284 inhabitants there, seven times today's population. It preserves a Gothic church dedicated to San Pedro Apóstol, traditional farmhouses, dovecotes and the so-called cave of the priest Merino, as well as the Fuente del Val. Its main festivals are San Silverio, on 20 June, San Pedro, on the 29th, and the Virgen del Rosario, on the first weekend of October. In the local cuisine, lechazo roasted in a wood-fired oven and puchero dishes stand out.
