What to see and do in Arevalillo de Cega

Arevalillo de Cega
Village
Arevalillo de Cega is a municipality of barely 18 inhabitants in the former Community of Town and Land of Pedraza, province of Segovia, already cited in 1247 as Arevaliello, a toponym perhaps of pre-Roman origin that would mean 'next to the wall'; until the 1916 reform it was simply called Arevalillo. Its church of San Mamés preserves the Romanesque apse, the rest of the building dating from the 18th century. On both banks of the Cega river open the Jaspe and Tocino caves, with Bronze Age remains, and the village still keeps its forge, recently restored, and its farrier's frame. It holds its patronal festivities on the last weekend of August.
Church of San Mamés
Monument
It preserves the original Romanesque apse while the rest of the building was rebuilt in the eighteenth century. San Mamés is the village's patron and his feast is held on the last weekend of August.
Caves of the Jaspe and the Tocino
Nature
In the north-eastern sector of the municipal district, beside the river Cega, open the caves known as del Jaspe and del Tocino, shelters inhabited in the Bronze Age and today part of the rocky landscape of the canyon.
Arevaliello, next to the wall
Historical milestone
The village is cited in 1247 as Arevaliello, a place name that perhaps derives from the pre-Roman are-valon, beside the wall; the present name was fixed in the 1916 reform of the municipal gazetteer.
