Martín Miguel
Village
Martín Miguel is a village of the Comunidad de Ciudad y Tierra de Segovia, situated on a cultivated plain 15 kilometres north of the sierra de Guadarrama and at 915 metres of altitude. It takes its name from the Castilian knight who resettled it after receiving land for his contribution to the Reconquest, and by 1290 it is already mentioned under its current name. In 1826 it was described as a royal domain of the sexmo de San Millán, with 110 residents engaged in farming and wool. Its Gothic church of San Bartolomé covers the central nave with a Mudéjar “par y nudillo”-type coffered ceiling and displays a Churrigueresque altarpiece. It has around 276 inhabitants.
