What to see and do in Valverde del Majano

Valverde del Majano
Village
Valverde del Majano is a municipality of the Segovian countryside with about 1,100 inhabitants. It belonged from the Reconquista to the Community of City and Land of Segovia, in the Sexmo de San Millán, although there is no written record of the place before the 12th century; by the mid-19th century it had 829 inhabitants. It preserves the 16th-century church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and the ermita of Nuestra Señora de la Aparecida, in the Mazuelos area, where pilgrimages are held in June and September. In its industrial estate, called Nicomedes García in honour of the businessman who created it in the 1970s and donated it to the municipality, stands one of the province's two bottling plants for DYC whisky. It celebrates the Assumption, on 15 August, as its patronal festivity.
Shrine of la Virgen de la Aparecida
Monument
The patron saint is venerated in a sanctuary raised on the deserted site of Mazuelos; the pilgrimage festivals are held on the second weekends of June and of September and are the event that gathers the most people in the municipality over the year.
