Aldea Real
Village
Aldea Real is a locality in the Campiña Segoviana with about 275 inhabitants, whose original name, Aldea del Rey, points to a royal foundation during the resettlement of the late 11th or early 12th century; it is first documented in 1247, in a manuscript on the revenues of the Obispado de Segovia. During the 13th century it grew in population, as shown by the building of its old church, of which today only the bell tower still stands. Its name appears in several 14th- and 15th-century documents of the Segovian cathedral chapter, and in 1456 Henry IV granted the Monasterio del Parral the revenues of Aldea del Rey together with those of other nearby villages. Today it lives off grain and pigs.
