What to see and do in Escalona del Prado

Escalona del Prado
Village
Escalona del Prado is a town in the province of Segovia, in the Campiña Segoviana, with around 475 inhabitants over a territory of 31.79 km²; first mentioned in 1204, it was called simply Escalona until 1916, and gave its name to the marquisate that Carlos II granted in 1679 to Íñigo de Acuña y Castro, who had bought the town from Pedro de la Cerda. Its church of San Zoilo holds an organ from 1785. At its festivities, in honour of the Virgen de la Cruz, a bunch of small doughnuts is auctioned off, a custom documented since 1678, when some residents of Sauquillo brought eight fanegas of wheat that were raffled off in her honour. The El Prado area, which has given its name to the municipality since the 20th century, served as an airfield during the Civil War.
