Zarzuela del Pinar
Village
Zarzuela del Pinar is a municipality in the province of Segovia, in the Tierra de Pinares district, 40 kilometres from the provincial capital and 23 from Cuéllar, within whose Community of Town and Land it is integrated in the Sexmo of Navalmanzano. The village, with about 408 inhabitants, is surrounded by pine forests, especially resin pines. Its church of the Exaltation of the Cross safeguards a lignum crucis, a fragment venerated as the true cross of Christ, and its municipal area also contains the ruins of the hermitages of San Andrés and San Cebrián. Among its notable sites are the Santo lagoon, the cave of La Mora and the depopulated area of La Hirvienza, beside the Cega river. It celebrates the Exaltation of the Cross on 14 September, the May Cross on 3 May and San Cristóbal on 10 July.
