What to see and do in Trescasas

Trescasas
Village
Trescasas is a municipality in the province of Segovia made up of the settlements of Trescasas, Sonsoto and La Atalaya, with about 1,130 inhabitants, situated at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama and belonging to the Community of City and Land of Segovia. Its name is already documented in 1247 in the Cathedral Archive of Segovia, long before the three shearing houses dedicated to transhumance were built between the 16th and 17th centuries, with which the toponym is usually explained; another theory links it to the medieval division of the water of the Cambrones river among the hamlets of Aragoneses, Sonsoto and Trescasas. The village lived from transhumance and its shearing houses, and today it bottles Bezoya water and makes the trescaseras empanadas filled with wild mushrooms.
La Noble Junta de Cabezuelas
Historical milestone
La Noble Junta de Cabezuelas, also known as the Junta de Aguas de la Cacera del Río Cambrones or Junta de Borregos, is a medieval institution that brings together municipalities of Tierras de Segovia to manage the Cambrones river and its irrigation channels. It takes its name from the hamlet of Cáceres or Cabezuelas, an ancestral seat now vanished, between Trescasas and San Cristóbal de Segovia. Since before the 11th century, and documented since 1401, residents have cleaned the Cacera Mayor on the last Saturday of May, a task suspended only in 1937 and 2020; in 1491 the Catholic Monarchs formalised its rights. In 1987 it gave rise to the Mancomunidad de La Atalaya, which brings together the same municipalities and today manages the water, leaving the Junta with only symbolic functions; in 2018 it halted an attempted expropriation by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero.
