What to see and do in San Cristóbal de Segovia

San Cristóbal de Segovia
Village
San Cristóbal de Segovia is a municipality of 3,161 inhabitants in the Tierras de Segovia or Alfoz de Segovia, 2 kilometres northeast of the city of Segovia, formed by San Cristóbal de Segovia, Montecorredores and El Terradillo. It split off from the municipality of Palazuelos de Eresma on 25 November 1999, a date it celebrates every year as the feast of the Segregación. According to the historian Diego de Colmenares, it was settled by Segovians who, after the Muslim invasion of the city, fled to the sierra and, not daring to return, founded small hamlets and outskirts. It preserves the medieval irrigation channels of the río Cambrones and the remains of its old Romanesque church.
Day of the Cacera Mayor (main irrigation channel)
Activity
On the last Saturday of May the locals celebrate the Día de la Cacera Mayor, devoted to the cleaning and the recognition of the medieval system of channels that distributes the water of the Cambrones and that sustained agriculture at the foot of the sierra.
The 1999 secession
Historical milestone
Documented from 1 June 1247 as Sant Christoval, a suburb of Segovia, the place depended on Palazuelos de Eresma until in 1999 it managed to constitute itself as a municipality of its own; every 25 November it celebrates its Day of Segregation.
