Navas de Riofrío
Village
Navas de Riofrío, popularly known as Las Navillas, is a village of some 430 inhabitants in the comarca of the Alfoz de Segovia, situated between the sierra de Guadarrama and the Bosque de Riofrío, just 6 kilometres south of the capital and 1.5 from the Palacio Real de Riofrío. It has belonged since its resettlement in the 11th century to the former Comunidad de Ciudad y Tierra de Segovia, and was traditionally a centre for shearing and the passage of transhumant sheep flocks, an activity of great importance in the 18th century. It was an independent municipality until 1844, when it was incorporated into Revenga, which ceded it to La Losa in 1900; it did not regain independence until 1983. It preserves a Romanesque church and the Lindaraja palace, moved stone by stone from Madrid and today devoted to Charolais cattle.
