Valdeprados
Village
Valdeprados is a municipality in the Community of City and Land of Segovia, in the Sexmo de San Martín, 24 kilometres from the capital, with about 63 inhabitants and the hamlet of Guijasalbas. Its name, from the Latin “valley of the meadows”, reflects its founding at the foot of the sierra, in a pastureland area next to the Campanilla drove road; the terrain, smoothed by the Moros river, rises to 1,036 metres at Mount Canto del Gallego. Of the medieval castle the village once had, the tower of the counts of Puñonrostro still stands, among whose lords was Juan Arias Dávila, later bishop of Segovia. It also preserves a Romanesque church dedicated to Santa Eulalia and the Los Enamorados bridge over the Moros river; the film Las ovejas no pierden el tren was shot in the town.
