What to see and do in Las Veguillas

Las Veguillas
Village
Las Veguillas is a municipality of around 275 inhabitants made up of eight places, Arguijo, Cabrera, Casanueva, Las Huertas, Las Veguillas, Llén, Mora de la Sierra and Pedro Llén, in Salamanca province. The hamlet of Llén dates back to the medieval resettlement process by the kings of León, while Las Veguillas was founded in the 14th century. Two and a half kilometres from the village, among holm oaks, stands the hermitage of the Santo Cristo de Cabrera, with a Romanesque carving on a polychrome trunk that Miguel de Unamuno described as a “peasant Christ”; some authors, because of the irregularity of its forms, date it to the 11th century. Every 18 June a pilgrimage is held in its honour, and the municipality was the birthplace of the jurist Juan Iglesias Santos, Prince of Asturias Award winner in 2001.
