What to see and do in Pino del Río

Pino del Río
Village
Pino del Río is a village in the Palencia district of Vega-Valdavia which also includes Celadilla del Río, situated on the left bank of the Carrión river, on a terrace of the páramo. Its name, already recorded in the Becerro de las Presentaciones de León between the 13th and 15th centuries as Pinno, refers to the pine groves along the river; its origins go back to the mid-9th or early 10th century, and Roman and Visigothic remains have been found within its boundaries. The church of San Pedro, from the 18th century, bears a sundial dated 1608 on its tower. The festivals of San Pedro and Santa Isabel are held on the first weekend of July and end with a pilgrimage to the Virgen del Nido. Among its pine groves, negrilla mushrooms are gathered. It now has about 165 inhabitants.
