Cervatos de la Cueza
Village
Cervatos de la Cueza is a municipality of about 240 inhabitants in the province of Palencia that groups together three villages, among them Calzadilla de la Cueza, a stage on the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. It preserves two Mudéjar brick towers from its former parish churches of Santa Columba and San Miguel, and the house where Juan de San Martín, father of General José de San Martín, was born, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 2000 and now turned into a museum. His memory is also recalled in the parish church of colonial appearance built in the 20th century under the sponsorship of the Argentine Republic. It celebrates its patronal festivities of San Roque and San Roquillo on 16 August, with the running of young bulls, and that of the Virgen de los Remedios on the second Sunday of October.
