What to see and do in Páramo de Boedo

Páramo de Boedo
Village
Páramo de Boedo is a municipality in the La Ojeda comarca, in the province of Palencia, with about 105 inhabitants at 864 metres; at the end of the 16th century, adding its former hamlets of Villameceriel and Zorita del Páramo, it exceeded 350. Its lands belonged to the Lara family, lords of Nuño Pérez de Lara, and later to the Velasco family; in the mid-18th century it passed to the Duke of Frías, when it had three flour mills and 37 residents. It preserves the Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad, with an interesting apse with windows decorated with capitals, and the hermitage of San Miguel. Its festivals are Santa María la Mayor, the first weekend of September, and San Miguel, on 8 May.
Church of San Lorenzo de Zorita del Páramo
Monument
The church of San Lorenzo, in the Palencia town of Zorita del Páramo, is one of the most complete examples of Palencia Romanesque, datable to the late 12th century although not finished until well into the 13th, as shown by its western portal. A Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), it has been a national historic-artistic monument since 1966. It has a Latin-cross plan, a single nave with four bays, a lantern tower over the transept with a hemispherical dome, and a semicircular apse. In the 16th century a plateresque-style porch was added, with star vaults, which hides the south façade, along with a sacristy and the tower at the foot of the church; these alterations did not substantially change the original Romanesque fabric.
The Boedo plateau
Nature
A limestone plateau of long horizons that separates the valleys of the Boedo and the Pisuerga, with holm oak and thyme scrub on the edges and a network of drove roads still used by the flocks of the north of the province.
