What to see and do in Santa Cruz de Boedo

Santa Cruz de Boedo
Village
Santa Cruz de Boedo is a hamlet in the La Ojeda comarca, in the province of Palencia, in the Boedo valley, which celebrated its millennium in 2011; its municipal area also includes the town of Hijosa de Boedo. In 1029 King Sancho Garcés III the Great donated to the monastery of Oña the nearby monastery of Santa María de las Muelas, whose boundary already bordered a primitive monastery called Sancta Cruçe which recent studies identify with this town; a year later, in 1030, Sancho III the Great granted Santa Cruz de Boedo a royal charter with tax exemptions. Through its vicinity passed the Bia Biatrera or Vía terrera, one of the early Ways of St James. It now has about fifty inhabitants, and its Romanesque church holds a medieval baptismal font.
