Cordovilla la Real
Village
Cordovilla la Real is a village in the Palencia district of El Cerrato, in the fertile plain (vega) of the Pisuerga river, 29 kilometres from Palencia; the terrain is shaped by the course of the Pisuerga between hills and plateaus (páramos), with altitudes ranging from the 904 metres of the El Moral hill to the 740 metres on the riverbank. It has about 130 inhabitants. It preserves the Renaissance church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and a classicist stone bridge over the Pisuerga, built in 1778 under the reign of Charles III. It also has two pillories declared bien de interés cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection): that of the town, a column with four corbels topped by a wrought-iron cross, and that of the vanished monastery of San Salvador del Moral, with a tall shaft bearing an abbatial coat of arms and a Gothic inscription from the late 15th century.
