Esguevillas de Esgueva
Village
Esguevillas de Esgueva is a town in the province of Valladolid, in the centre of the Esgueva river valley, at its confluence with the Arranca valley, through which the San Vicente stream flows. It kept its walls well into the 18th century, of which today only the memory survives in the street names; in the mid-19th century it had 766 inhabitants, according to the Dictionary of Pascual Madoz. It preserves the church of San Torcuato, from the 16th century, and on its Plaza Mayor an arcaded house with three stone columns beside two others with arches. Its economy is based on farming and livestock, with the prized lechazo of the Esgueva Valley; it celebrates the festivities of San Vicente Ferrer on the first Monday after Pentecost, with a pilgrimage to its chapel. It has 257 inhabitants.

Food and drink
The milk-fed lamb of the churra breed raised on the moorlands of the Esgueva enjoys great prestige and is covered by the protected geographical indication Lechazo de Castilla y León; it is roasted whole in a clay dish and a wood-fired oven.
