What to see and do in Magaz de Pisuerga

Magaz de Pisuerga
Village
Magaz de Pisuerga is a municipality in the Palencia district of El Cerrato, ten kilometres from the provincial capital, in the valley where the Pisuerga river forms the boundary with Reinoso de Cerrato; its altitude ranges from 720 to the 872 metres of the Cincopicos hill. It has about 1,065 inhabitants. On the hill known as the Castillo de Magaz there stood in the 10th century a fortified tower, and its caves, previously inhabited by Celts and Romans, gave way in the late 11th century to a stronghold granted by Queen Urraca to the bishop of Palencia. The church of San Mamés, with a 12th-century Romanesque apse, gives its name to the main festivals of 7 August, and on 8 September the Virgen de Villaverde is carried from its hermitage accompanied by the village's group of dancers.
