Villaviudas
Village
Villaviudas is a village of 356 inhabitants, compared with 838 in the 19th century, on the banks of the río Pisuerga, in the El Cerrato comarca, 18 kilometres from Palencia, set at the foot of the valley carved by the Prado stream before it flows into the Pisuerga. In a nearby plot a Bronze Age sword was found, and in 1975, at the site of Los Paredones, the remains of a Roman villa from the 2nd and 3rd centuries appeared, with geometric mosaics and pottery. A little over a kilometre away, on the road to Baltanás, the ruins of the deserted medieval village of Tablada are preserved, already recorded in the 10th century and inhabited until the early 18th century. The church of the Asunción is covered with Gothic vaults from the 13th and 14th centuries and completed its façade in 1774.
