What to see and do in La Vecilla

La Vecilla
Village
La Vecilla is a town of around 385 inhabitants in the province of León, at the entrance to the upper valley of the río Curueño, of which it was the seat of a judicial district until its merger with that of León at the end of the 20th century. It has a medieval cylindrical tower that belonged to the counts of Luna, now restored as the town hall, and an 18th-century parish church with a Baroque altarpiece. The municipality, which also groups together Campohermoso, La Cándana de Curueño and Sopeña de Curueño, is known for the artisanal breeding of pardo and indio breed roosters, whose feathers are used to tie trout-fishing flies; on the second Sunday of March it holds a rooster and fly show, and since 2014 it has housed the Museo del Gallo.
