What to see and do in La Ercina

La Ercina
Village
La Ercina is a municipality in the province of León, at 1,102 metres above sea level, with an extreme climate, cold in winter and hot in summer, spread across fourteen villages including Acisa de las Arrimadas, Barrillos de las Arrimadas and La Ercina itself. It has an ethnographic museum devoted to farming implements, and since the summer of 2013 a pre-Roman fortified settlement has been under excavation at the Peña del Castro. In Barrillos de las Arrimadas there is an 1880 shrine dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, where a pilgrimage is held every 22 August, and La Acisa holds its pear fair at the end of October. It has around 410 inhabitants, against the 1,048 recorded in the mid-19th century by Madoz's Diccionario.
Romanesque tower of Santa Marina de Barrillos
Monument
The church of Santa Marina preserves a thirteenth-century Romanesque tower and a Renaissance altarpiece with reliefs of the apostles, the most notable artistic ensemble of a municipality spread across fourteen small settlements.
Fair of la pera asadera de Acisa
Activity
At the end of October Acisa de las Arrimadas devotes a fair to the pera asadera, a local variety hard and sharp when raw that is cooked in the oven or in syrup and that was a winter dessert throughout the mountains.
