Villamandos
Village
Villamandos is a municipality in the comarca of Esla-Campos, in the province of León, situated in the floodplain of the río Esla and crossed by the Autovía Ruta de la Plata and the N-630 road, 53 kilometres from the Leonese capital; its altitude ranges between 805 metres to the west and 725 on the banks of the Esla, alongside which runs the Canal del Esla. Formed by Villamandos and Villarrabines, it broke away from Toral de los Guzmanes in 1857, when the town had 124 houses recorded, according to Pascual Madoz. It now has 272 inhabitants and preserves the paloteo dance, performed in honour of its patron, San Blas.
